Una finestra aperta sulla disfunzione endoteliale: il modello HUVEC

An open window into endothelial dysfunction: the HUVEC model

Type 2 diabetes mellitus is a prevalent chronic disease globally, with complications such as retinopathy, nephropathy, neuropathy, and cardiovascular disease being major causes of morbidity and mortality. Endothelial dysfunction is a central factor in these complications. Human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVEC) serve as a valuable in vitro model within translational research, enabling detailed investigation of endothelial dysfunction and evaluation of therapeutic interventions. HUVEC-based studies bridge basic science and clinical applications, offering a reproducible and accessible model that closely mimics human vascular biology, making them instrumental in developing targeted therapies for cardiovascular complications in diabetes.
