Background/aim: This editorial is aimed at providing a reference for the management of adult patients with diabetes or hyperglycemia hospitalized in a non-critical clinical setting. Methods and results: The Italian guidelines have recently been published (https://www.iss.it/-/snlg-gestione-paziente-adulto-con-diabete-setting-non-critico) developed following the GRADE method by a panel nominated by Società Italiana di Medicina Interna, Associazione Medici Diabetologi, Società Italiana di Diabetologia, Federazione Associazioni dei Dirigenti Ospedalieri Internisti, Società Italiana di Gerontologia e Geriatria e Associazione Nazionale Infermieri di Medicina. Conclusions: The recommendations are conceived as indications for healthcare professionals responsible for diabetes care in non-critical clinical settings, taking into account primarily the clinical needs of people with diabetes and secondarily the organization of the healthcare system
