Lo screening del diabete di tipo 1 in Italia, il progetto propedeutico e le implicazioni pratiche

Type 1 diabetes screening in Italy, preparatory project and practical implications

Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is a common and serious disease that affects children, adolescents, and young adults. Diagnosis is often with diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA), which poses serious health risks. Autoantibody studies have shown that presymptomatic stages can be identified before clinical diagnosis. Screening for autoantibodies in the general population could help reduce and prevent DKA. This review focuses on Italian law 130/2023 on population screening of T1D.
